Today, I will share a “Draft Report” from Dr Gary Goforth. This report is a response he has created specifically to U.S. Sugar Corporation’s May 1st full- page ad in the Stuart News entitled: “The Water That Ends Up In Our Local Waterways.”
This is one of multiple full-page ads U.S. Sugar Corporation has run in the local Martin County paper over that past months trying to “educate” our citizenry. Why are they spending so much money doing this? Why all the propaganda? Because they know that though our advocacy for the St Lucie River/Indian River Lagoon, we are changing the course of human events. For the first time, many people and some important politicians and are looking at South Florida and saying “It needs to be re-plumbed…..”
Dr Goforth (http://garygoforth.net) is no stranger to these water issues, nor to the controversy and ability to manipulate the numbers complicated by the historic and supportive relationship between those doing business in the Everglades Agricultural Area south of the lake and today’s South Florida Water Management District. Thus the intertwined propaganda.

Crazy Jacqui blaming people 100 miles away for our own problems. Its our septic tanks that are putting sewage in our water – not farmers 3 counties away!!!

Where does this scientist say its the farmer’s fault? Its our crap in the water – not someone elses.
Dr. Gary Goforth’s charts, graphs and statements positioned in opposition to U.S. Sugar’s statements are a manipulation of pictures and words that appear to make salient points. But there’s a problem. In the first example, U.S. Sugar is quoted saying 95% of water enters Lake Okeechobee “from the north.” To counter that, Dr. Goforth names three basins that together add up to only 58% to “prove” U.S. Sugar was lying. But U.S. Sugar never said the three basins alone were the source of the 95%. They said THE NORTH. In Dr. Goforth’s next sentence, he expanded the area where the water “volumes approach 90%,” By doing so, he reinforced U.S. Sugar’s statement! Try a different approach next time. Accept the facts published by U. S. Sugar.

Talk about propaganda! Just because the facts don’t support this author’s bias does not mean you can reinvent science. The water flowing into Lake Okeechobee comes from north of the Lake – the 95% mentioned in this article is completely accurate.
I am not sure what other “facts” these people are looking at… but it is FACTUALLY and SCIENTIFICALLY accurate to say the majority(95%) of the water flows from North of the lake.
It’s simple science and data people! Water flows from the North and that means if we buy land for further storage- it logically would make most sense to purchase land in the North…not the South 😛
I tested the water near Port Canaveral locks.–Nitrate (NO3) levels were at 80 ppm(unsafe)—Nitrite level 3.0 (stress) and ph was below 7.0 which is too low. I have created a few havens for fish to find shelter and can tell they are loven it. Brown tide my ass.
They built big shipping termanals at Port Canaveral with overhead cranes designed to unload container ships. They dredged the waters leaveing the port to allow these big container ships to come in —selling the sand to taxpayers to slow down beach erosion. I have read that a bunch of commissioners were not going to let them build a Rail Road across the Banana River in this no motor zone because it is one of the few healthy grass flats left—I think they were waiting for some collaboration. China owns this country and they are probably costing china millions of dollars a day. It should be no problem building a railroad now that they have dumped sewage and causeing massive “brown tide”. I think someone missed the leadership school. Happy Mothers Day .
This water sample was take within 20 foot of where waves churn calcium sand and shell . For the ph to be this low here means away from this area must be really bad. Everyplace where I live and have been putting sand could not be better when I tested water yesterday . The one place I found some nitrates and nitrites was water is comeing from banana river where they dumped sewage.
wow.. this is filled with misinformation. How can you blame the farmers whom actually are doing their best to keep Lake O safe. The issue here is groups like Bullsugar paying for ‘scientists’ to lie and point the blame on Big Sugar companies. These groups want control of the Southern land to store the water, when in actuality, we have land in the North that is already available. I know there is going to be a massive algie bloom this summer in this area so it is going to be very inportant to complete the cycle the way the historic lagoon did. Bacteria eating the algie will suck all the oxygen out of the water. This can create huge dead zones. The historic lagoon shores were lined with calcium and when all this decaying algie washed to shore the acids reacting with a base (calcium)released massive amounts of desolved oxygen that broke things down to minerals completeing the cycle. We are haveing our anual Lagoon Fest at our lagoon house on the 21. It is for the public
