“In Full Bloom” Documentation Lake Okeechobee, Early June 2023

Thank you my husband Dr Ed Lippisch our eye in the sky. And thank you to my brother Todd who alerts us through his website http://eyeonlakeo.com when to fly. June 1st we entered hurricane season. If a storm causes the lake level to rise significantly there is a real possibility the ACOE will discharge. LOSOM an updated lake schedule that would be more beneficial to the estuaries has been delayed. Be ready. Make yourself heard.

  1. I just heard through the grapevine that you are no longer on the SFWM board. That is a travesty. What happened? You have done more for the river than anyone else .

    1. It appears that former Senate President Wilton Simpson (now Agriculture Commissioner) made a deal with Senate President Kathleen Passidomo in return for his support of her assuming her role.
Jacquie must have hurt Wilton Simpson’s widdle feelings when she organized opposition against the destructive wetlands/Evergaldes bill he filed while he was Senate President.
So now, Kathleen Passidomo has refused to confirm Jacquie for another four years on SWFMD, even though Desantis re-nominated her.
Does anyone know how to personally reach Desantis? This is a terrible loss for all residents of South Florida.

  2. Hi Jaqui, does LOSOM even matter given how high the lake is? if we have significant rain and or storm surge what choice will there be other than discharges? Ty, Jack Walsh, MCTA

    1. Jack, hi, yes LOSOM matters. There are nuances but LOSOM allows the lake to go up to 17 feet at times for a period of time. LORS is much lower. Certain times – hurricanes etc.. will require dumping but less under LOSOM than LORS if it stays as discussed months back.

  3. Here we go again. Thanks Jacqui & Ed for giving us this real-time view of this danger.

  4. Thanks for all you do. The reason the algae bloom on Lake O is so bad this year is the Lake has been too high for several years and there is no SAV to clean the phosphorus from the water. A high Lake also means a “stirred up” Lake with the water column full of nutrients from the bottom muck, a soup full of algae food. This year is a replica of what the proposed LOSOM will do. Even Col. Booth has said he has used the LOSOM guidelines the past year. So, if you like what you see on Lake O, that is what LOSOM will bring. All that dirtier than ever Lake water is destined to flow East, West and South. Sooner or later. With even a modest storm, the St. Lucie will be destroyed.

  5. We were very sorry, and outraged, that the FL Senate has not confirmed your reappointment. We have emailed the Guv and Brian Mast. Will try to do more. Thank you for all you have done.

  6. Thank you for all that you, your husband, your brother and your mom have done to educate and raise awareness of the need for Clean Water in South Florida.

I learned a couple of days ago that the FL Senate did not confirm your reappointment. I posted the following in the Save Our Water Solutions Group on the West Coast::

“This is a travesty! Jacqui is far and away the best clean water representative on the Governing Board. She and her husband have taken aerial photos of Lake O., the Everglades, etc. as well as has an excellent blog. Her brother has an excellent website and her mother is an excellent historian of SE Florida. She has helped to educate Floridians and tourists on the need for CERP, for clean water and to restore the flow to the Everglades and then to Florida Bay. Jacqui needs to be reinstalled by Gov. DeSantis! In the meantime, shame on the FL Legislature!!!”
