1911 Kissimmee Valley Gazette; Amazing Old Pics!

My mother, historian Sandra Henderson Thurlow, sent me this remarkable 1911 magazine promoting the wonders of the Kissimmee Valley as seen in 1911; I think you’ll enjoy it too! Click on images to enlarge and view as gallery. Magazine is organized into four sections due to length. After viewing gallery section, X out in upper right corner to be able to enter next galley section.

KISSIMMEE VALLEY GAZETTE, 1911

Jacqui,

I have this over-size magazine published in 1911. Since you are working on the Kissimmee it might interest. Believe it or not, there is an aerial of Lake Tohopekaliga–oblique. I wonder why Miami is misspelled on “Miam” on map page 9? Notice no St. Lucie Canal.  Interestingly, P. A. Vans Agnew ended up here and was involved in the formation of Martin County. ~Mom

  1. florida’s sleeping tiger is the monster alagator and we are going to need our monster gaters to keep the pythons in check so I am going to tell you how to save the monster gators life. Put 100 lb test or more(mono fishing line)on a 4/0 or largeer penn reel—after grinding the barb off a shark hook tie the 80 lb.. mono(break away) leader to the hook. Befriend the good gator turned maneater and feed him something good to eat and hang on for all you are good for. It is inportant that the gator sees it is a person that has done this bad thing to him. It is also inportant that the hook is small enough for him to pass it through his digestive system. The next time someone tries to turn a good human fearing gator into a maneater the gator will run and hide
