Today I am sharing a “gallery” of discharge photographs from my husband Ed’s flight over Ft Pierce, Sebastian, and Stuart’s St Lucie Inlets. The photos were taken yesterday, March 6th, 2016, around 2pm.
A picture speaks a thousands words…(In this case through about 106 frames.) Yesterday was an absolutely beautiful day, yet area waters estuarine and ocean were not necessarily so. —-Certainly not those surrounding the St Lucie River/Indian River Lagoon near the St Lucie Inlet.
The discharge levels and reports for Lake Okeechobee can be reviewed at the Army Corp of Engineer’s Jacksonville website here: http://w3.saj.usace.army.mil/h2o/reports.htm. Lake Okeechobee is reported at 15.68.
The ACOE will be releasing less according to a recent press release.

This unapologetic massive pollution of our recreational waters is a crime, and every politician should be arrested for their part in their refusal to correct it. They ignore the constitutional mandate of Amendment I in Tallahassee, and the Federal Government is violating the Clean Water Act by maintaining Lake Okeechobee and the St. Lucie Canal as a point source of pollution with absolutely no treatment and no effective plans to permanently stop it. This is our government breaking the law to the detriment of our health and quality of life. The City of Stuart and the Martin County Commission are sitting on their hands and allowing this to happen. They are the ones who should mount a consistent and constant attack on the State and Federal Government until they get results, because Washington D.C. and Tallahassee aren’t living with this black water and toxic algae, which is getting worse with every discharge. Our local government needs to take a stand just like they are trying to do with All Aboard Florida, which will have a very minor impact on our lives compared to what is going on with our Estuary and Lagoon.
