In my younger years, my Grandfather Henderson gave me a Highwayman painting by Livingston Roberts. It is a moonscape and when the moon is not out, I look to it for the same inspiration as I felt last night. It is the painting at the top of this blog post.
As shared on the Highwaymen website, Livingston Roberts, the painter of my piece, belonged to the Highwaymen group, an association of young African-American artists that functioned in 1950s and beyond in Ft Pierce, Florida. The Highwaymen artists specialized in painting Florida landscapes in a recognizable and flamboyant style.
Because they were black, it was not possible for them to sell their paintings in art galleries and shows, so they were selling them right from the backs of their cars and trucks. That is how they gained their name – “Highwaymen.”

Mr Backus taught Alfred Hair, the group’s founding painter and businessman. Artist, Mr Bean Backus, the father of impressionist natural-landscapes of our region and world renowned, welcomed the young black artists into his studio during a time of great prejudice. This kindness opened a whole new world for the young artists and a new light shone on Ft Pierce….
Like the moon, the story of the Highwaymen is one of a great inspiration.

When I was a kid I remember my parents strapping a 30 foot bamboo pole shrimp net to my dads modle A car. Fishing has allways been a way of life and a safty net for people when other things don’t work out . From what I have seen and am seeing everything can be brought back and it will NOT take tons of money to do it. Our constitution was written to prevent US citizens from giving taxes to a forign power and look where we are now–17 trillion in dept to countries like China and Saudi Arabia. Now how much is it going to cost to raise the Tami Ami Trail ?

I am intrigued.
I have noticed calcium adhears to rocks and leaves a thin film that can sometimes be seen when the tide is low. I believe that if you put enough calcium sand the acid will desolve it and at the right time of year the few corals you have left will smell the calcium and release there polyps(baby coral)which will adhear(stick) to the calcium on the rocks. Oysters and barnicals will do this too.

321-412-1270 is my number. I stay tired. I am working on the new Gruman aircraft plant in Melbourne. I am saveing my money. I hope to bring back some of the coquina formations in the spring. I have noticed that the acid desolves just enough calcium from the hard coquina that microscopic coquina can survive. Putting calcium sand when the water is calm makes them grow and multiply.100 years ago all the coquina was SOFT and was one of the most sought after building materials.

I have put togather a photo album to try to inform people better but there is so much to tell .Last summer there were fish kills in the process and I can stop the fish from dieing with a few buckets of sand. Where I put sand last year is where the sea grass grew this year and where I put sand this year will be where the sea grass grows next year. I am sure there will be people who oppose anything you do. On the license plate on my truck it says MY FLORIDA. I feel MY FLORIDA has been brutaly destroyed .
